Home 2nd Annual STARS Control Line Fun Fly!

2nd Annual STARS Control Line Fun Fly!. Saturday, May 18, 2024 @ The STARS in Phoenix, NY.

Two weeks from now the Syracuse Thunderbirds Aero Radio Society will be hosting their 2nd Annual Control Line Fun Fly!!

The first Fun Fly last year was a huge success. The STARS Club of Central New York had made some serious improvements to their Control Line accommodations and had reached a point where they wanted to show off their facilities to Control Liners beyond just the Central New York region. To that end, they scheduled what they hoped would be the first of an annual Control Line Fun Fly event. It worked as flyers from across upstate New York and Central Pennsylvania attended the event. Everyone reported that they had a great time and would look forward to attending again in the future. Well, the future is now only 2 weeks away!

The STARS Control Line accommodations are great with the primary Control Line flying circle including a pilot’s concrete center pad and a takeoff runway. The pilot’s center pad also features a ‘Pilot’s Pole’ that can be put in place for anyone needing a little extra support while going around in circles. The primary circle is always fully groomed for control line flying. In addition to the flying field, the club offers a clubhouse with food and beverages, ample parking, and power charging stations for those flying with electric engines.

This main flight circle will be used for all pilots to show off and fly their winter builds, general control line flying of all types, new pilot flights, and several Fun Fly Events that will be featured throughout the day.

Another huge success last year was the set up of a second flying circle for additional flight capacity! This second circle is for experienced control line pilots and will feature computer-based In-Stunt Pattern Tracing with immediate feedback for experienced stunt pilots! A local flyer has developed this program and the flight analysis results are awesome. This flying feature was a big hit last year. Come and see how well you perform the stunt pattern with the computer as your judge!

Depending on the number of pilots and flying demand, a third flight circle can be set up for use. This came into play last year and it was great to see (and hear!) 3 circles all flying at the same time!

During this event, the STARS facility will have food and beverages for sale at reasonable prices. There are also outhouse facilities provided at the field. Also, while there are no hook-ups, RV’s are welcome to spend the night at the club facilities.

And best of all…participation in this event is FREE! No pre-registration and no parking or landing fees.

Finally, this year will see the FlyBoyz Store awarding a ‘Door Prize’ to one deserving event attendee! Come and see if you are the winner!

Everyone is invited to come and fly Control Line…bring any Control Line plane you may have. A Ringmaster (and coaching!) will be provided for new pilots wanting to give Control Line flying a try.

If interested and have questions, please let me know and I can provide additional details. I can be contacted through this link: Contact

I have attached a flyer with all the information needed for anyone wishing to participate in this event. We are hoping for a big turnout so get your planes ready and add this event to your calendar!
