FlyBoyz – Status Update

If you are a frequent visitor to FlyBoyz (and I Thank You if you are!!), you may have noticed a decrease in the frequency of posts over the past two months. That is due to the fact that I have been consumed with preparing my house for sale. As a result, FlyBoyz has suffered as I’ve had to severely curtail my aviation related activities in the process. But, the reduction in aviation activity now is serving a greater future goal.

My wife and I have been working to sell our current house in an attempt to ‘downsize’ into a house that will serve our needs now and into our many years of retirement. One of my criteria in such a house was for a basement large enough (and DRY enough) to meet all my modeling needs going forward. I am happy to report that we are well on our way to achieving our goals!

We put our current house on the market last week and sold it in just 4 days for more than the listing price thus justifying all the hard work we’ve spent on it over the years we’ve lived here and especially justifying the work we’ve focused on over the past few months prepping it for sale. Then, just today, we had our offer accepted on the house we plan to move to. And that house meets my criteria for a house with a basement large enough to accommodate all my modeling needs going forward.

As I’ve mentioned from time to time in FlyBoyz, besides being a model airplane builder, I also enjoy (HO) model railroading. For years now, I’ve been waiting to build the train pike of my dreams. I can finally work towards realizing that dream with this house. Here is a picture of the ’empty canvas’ that will one day have model trains running through it:

Of course, model planes will not be neglected! They need a workshop (i.e. hanger) of their own for construction and maintenance. Here is a picture of the future workshop area that will serve all my modeling needs:

And what basement modeling empire would be complete without a Pilots (Engineers?!) Lounge to hang out in between building and operating sessions? The former owner of this house aptly anticipated those needs of mine and has already prepared the Pilots Lounge for use. Here are photos of it:

And ‘Yes’, that IS a wet bar and the pool table comes with the house!

We are currently scheduled to close on both houses on July 15, so, over the next few months, my aviation activities will continue to be curtailed as we pack, move, and then unpack. Then there will be the thousand and one tasks/projects associated with moving into a new house. Included in those projects will be building out my basement modeling workshop! And in the end, I will have a modeling empire from which many FlyBoyz posts will flow!

While all this is going on, I will try to fit in as many aviation activities as possible and I will, of course, report on them here in FlyBoyz. I will also continue to post any other aviation items of note that I come across.

And this is a great opportunity to become a FlyBoyz Guest Poster! I’ve been very fortunate to be able to publish several excellent posts by my aviation friends. If you think you might be interested in writing about some aspect of your aviation activities and having it published here in FlyBoyz, then drop me a line. Your audience awaits you!

So stay tuned…the future of FlyBoyz is bright indeed and I am very excited about it!
